Street food focus: Yard Sale

Henry Norman samples the hottest dishes on the high street, are they more than just a flash in the pan?
What?
The Full House.
Where?
Yard Sale delivers ‘simple, good pizza’ from nine shops across north, south, east and, more recently, south east London.
How much?
£26.50 (18 inches).
The menu says:
‘Pepperoni, fennel sausage, spicy ground beef, mushrooms, peppers and black olives.’
The hype says:
Winner of Best Value Eats at the 2022 Observer Food Magazine Awards; winner of Time Out’s 2022 Clash of the Slices competition; “Creates some of the finest [pizzas] in the capital”: The London Economic.
We say:
Having already risen to the top of the table of London-based pizza purveyors following a number of impressive wins this year (see box), Yard Sale has grabbed more headlines (and our attention) this month with the reissue of its World Cup special. Like FIFA, this maverick talent isn’t afraid of controversy, and similar to many of its previous specials and collaborations, The Full House’s all-out attack approach means it isn’t one for the (pizza) purists.
The base is the Declan Rice of the piece, providing a solid platform for an array of flair players to do their stuff. The mushrooms got a bit crowded out for me, with the star performers being the generous helping of peperoni and the ground beef, which provided a satisfying kick.
While some may balk at the transfer fee (it’s £9.50 more than the margherita), the £1 from each sale being donated to Stonewall is an extremely nice touch. Plus, at this size (two of us failed to finish it), it’ll last you the whole 90 minutes… plus the apparently now obligatory 20-minutes plus of stoppage time to boot.
Should you believe the hype?
An extremely versatile and effective performer – plus it’s nice to see Italy finally having some involvement in the tournament.
